A tree location survey records the exact location, trunk diameter at breast height (TBH), and marking of located trees if needed. Usually, a tree location survey is a city requirement for locating specific trees that may need to be replaced if building plans remove them. A tree location can also aid in the development process by knowing which native trees have value for a future project, and whether they can be incorporated into the design plans.
A tree survey (or tree mapping) is a comprehensive survey and assessment of a tree population within a designated site or parcel of land. The first stage of a tree survey is the tree mapping. Tree mapping comprises of numbering, tagging and collecting data for each tree within the site. Once the tree mapping has been carried out and all relevant data has been collected the tree survey report can be prepared.
